CAREER EXPLORATION FOR ADULTS RECEIVING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

A long form interview, to be conducted over several sessions, helps residents clarify their goals at Hollis Gardens residence for veterans
THE CHALLENGE
A supportive housing organization for veterans receives funding for career training for residents. Low income residents complete career training and land jobs, but those low wage jobs push them off the benefits cliff, making them lose public benefits, while not earning a livable wage. How can career education help them either jump over the benefits cliff and enter careers with family-sustaining wages, or find work that enables them to keep their public benefits?
THE POPULATION
Military veterans in supported public housing
THE SOLUTION
-
Educational-vocational interviews to clarify life goals, abilities and resources
-
Resources to identify career education that will enable them to jump over the benefits cliff and land family-sustaining jobs, getting off public assistance
OR
find jobs that enable them to maintain public benefits
